IELTS General Training is the version of the test required for most UK work visas, Canada Express Entry, and Australia skilled migration. The stakes are high — your visa or PR application depends on hitting a specific score in every single skill.
Sahil Sayed is a CELTA-certified trainer who has helped students across India reach the exact score their visa or immigration pathway requires — not just overall, but in every individual skill. He marks your writing, runs speaking mock tests, and tells you honestly what needs to change.

IELTS General Training is the version of the test required for most UK work visas, Canadian immigration, and Australian skilled migration visas. If you are applying for a UK Skilled Worker or Spouse Visa, Canada Express Entry, or an Australian PR visa, you almost certainly need IELTS General Training — not IELTS Academic.
The four skills are Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Listening and Speaking are identical to IELTS Academic. The key differences are in Reading (GT uses everyday texts rather than academic articles) and Writing Task 1 (GT requires a letter rather than a graph description).

Score requirements by visa and immigration route. Always verify with your specific application — requirements can change.
| Visa / Route | Country | Test version | Required score | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UK Skilled Worker Visa | 🇬🇧 UK | IELTS for UKVI (GT) | 4.0 each skill (B1) | No minimum overall — each skill must be 4.0+ |
| UK Health & Care Worker Visa | 🇬🇧 UK | IELTS for UKVI (GT) | 4.0 each skill (B1) | Same as Skilled Worker requirement |
| UK Spouse / Partner Visa (extension) | 🇬🇧 UK | IELTS Life Skills A2 | A2 level | Initial entry uses IELTS Life Skills A1 |
| UK ILR / Settlement | 🇬🇧 UK | IELTS for UKVI (GT) | 4.0 each skill (B1) | Must show continuous residence + pass Life in UK Test |
| Canada Express Entry — FSW / CEC (NOC 0/1) | 🇨🇦 Canada | IELTS GT | CLB 7 = 6.0 per skill | Higher scores add significant CRS points |
| Canada Express Entry — CEC (NOC 2/3) | 🇨🇦 Canada | IELTS GT | CLB 5 = 5.0 per skill | Lower threshold for intermediate occupations |
| Canada Provincial Nominee (PNP) | 🇨🇦 Canada | IELTS GT | CLB 5–7 (varies by province) | Ontario typically CLB 7; BC varies by stream |
| Australia Skilled Independent (189 / 190) | 🇦🇺 Australia | IELTS GT | 6.0 each skill (Competent) | Proficient (7.0) or Superior (8.0) earns points |

All four skills, all GT-specific content, with feedback on your actual work — not just practice exercises.
The most commonly misunderstood part of GT. Sahil covers all three formality levels: formal letters (complaints, requests, explanations to organisations), semi-formal (to a manager or colleague), and informal (to a friend). You submit real letters and receive feedback against official IELTS descriptors.
GT Task 2 essays cover the same question types as Academic — opinion, discussion, problem-solution, two-part. Sahil teaches a consistent, examiner-tested structure and marks your actual essays explaining what is limiting your score and exactly what to change.
GT Reading uses notices, advertisements, workplace guidelines, and general-interest articles. Sahil covers all question types — matching headings, True/False/Not Given, sentence completion, and multiple choice — with strategies specific to the GT format.
From everyday conversations in Section 1 to academic lectures in Section 4. Listening is identical for GT and Academic. Sahil teaches note-taking, prediction, and accuracy strategies. The goal is zero careless errors — most marks lost in Listening are avoidable.
Weekly mock tests covering Part 1 (everyday questions), Part 2 (one-minute long turn), and Part 3 (extended discussion). Feedback covers all four criteria: Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation.
If you need IELTS for UKVI for a UK visa application, the preparation is identical to standard IELTS GT. Sahil covers the exam format, what the UKVI-approved test centre process looks like, and the specific score thresholds required for each UK visa route.
This course is built around the situations that GT candidates actually face.
🇬🇧
UK Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker, or ILR — you need IELTS for UKVI (the approved version of GT) with 4.0 in each skill. Many people underestimate how achievable this is with the right preparation.
💍
If you are extending a UK Spouse or Partner Visa, you need to show A2 level English. Sahil can help you understand exactly which test you need at each stage and prepare efficiently.
🍁
CLB 7 is the minimum for most Express Entry streams — but CLB 9 adds over 100 CRS points. Even moving from CLB 7 to CLB 8 in Writing can make a meaningful difference to your draw chances.
🦘
Most Australian skilled visas require Competent English (6.0 each skill). Proficient English (7.0) earns points for 189 and 190 visas. Sahil tailors preparation to your exact score target.
⏰
Many GT students fall short by 0.5 in one skill — usually Writing. Sahil looks at exactly what went wrong and fixes it. A narrow miss is often the easiest situation to turn around.
🏠
Evening and weekend classes, session recordings, and flexible 1-on-1 scheduling mean you do not have to take time off work. Most visa applicants prepare for IELTS alongside a full-time job.
Not sure if this course is right for your situation?
The most common reason GT students fall short is not a lack of English — it is a lack of understanding of what the examiner is specifically looking for. A formal letter that would be perfectly fine in real life may still score Band 5.5 in IELTS because it misses the task requirements or uses vocabulary that is too informal.
Sahil marks your actual letters and essays against the four official IELTS Writing Band Descriptors: Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. He tells you which descriptor is limiting your score and shows you what a Band 6.5 or 7.0 response looks like compared to what you submitted.
For visa applicants in particular, Sahil understands the pressure involved. He does not waste time on things that do not move scores — he focuses on exactly what will get you from where you are to where you need to be, within the time you have.
“When someone tells me their visa is riding on this test, I take that seriously. We work backwards from the score they need and make sure every hour of preparation is moving them towards it.”

“I had failed my IELTS for UKVI once and was panicking — my visa application was on hold. Sahil understood exactly what I needed. He focused on my Writing, which was the weak point. Within six weeks I got 7.0 overall and 6.5 in Writing. The visa came through two weeks later.”

“I needed CLB 9 across all skills to get enough CRS points. That means roughly 7.5 in every section. Sahil was genuinely one of the best teachers I have had. He is patient, structured, and incredibly specific in his feedback. The improvement in my Writing Task 1 letters was the biggest jump.”

“I needed 7.0 in each band for the Australia state nomination. I had been at 6.0 for two attempts and did not know how to close that gap. Sahil showed me exactly what Proficient English looks like in Writing and Speaking. Four weeks of real feedback made the difference.”
