Important — “Clear Working Days” Explained
The 3-day rule counts clear working days only — weekends and public holidays are excluded, and neither the test day nor the cancellation day counts. For a Monday test, you must cancel by Wednesday of the previous week. If your test falls the day after a bank holiday weekend, calculate carefully.
Also preparing for a UK visa? You likely need IELTS too.
The Life in the UK test demonstrates your knowledge of British history and culture, but most UK visa applications also require a separate approved English language test. For Skilled Worker, Spouse, ILR, and many other visa routes, that test is IELTS for UKVI. Our certified trainers help students across India prepare for both.
See IELTS requirements for every UK visa →Cancelling is free if you do so at least 3 clear working days before your test. If you cancel within 3 working days, you forfeit the £50 test fee.

A clear working day excludes the day of the test and the day you cancel, and does not include weekends or public holidays. For example, if your test is on a Monday, you must cancel by Wednesday of the previous week.
If you did not attend (no show), you lose the £50 fee and must book and pay for a new test. Contact the booking portal as soon as possible to secure a new date.
The official process is through the online booking portal at lifeintheuktest.gov.uk. Phone support is limited; the portal is the recommended and fastest method.
For most UK visas (Skilled Worker, Spouse, ILR), yes. The Life in the UK test satisfies the 'knowledge of language and life' requirement for settlement, but the initial visa application typically also requires an approved English language test such as IELTS for UKVI.
